Participation
Our project days and weeks are structured so that children and young people can decide on their own content. Whether it is a radio feature, report or podcast, many things are possible.
Learning materials and resources
The course books are written in a way that is easy to understand for every age group and include many guides, so that what has been learned can also be reviewed after the course.
Media in the classroom
Media literacy should be taught to pupils. But how can media be brought into the classroom in a well-founded, attractive and motivating way? Schools often lack the necessary infrastructure, so everything remains dry theory. This is where Radio Summernight comes in, offering radio projects, project days and project weeks for schools. Young people contribute their own ideas and interests and shape the radio programme. This practical way of working with media has proven successful many times. The courses and workshops held so far confirm the success of the concept.
Pupils learn to navigate the media and virtual environment by engaging with sources and creating their own radio contributions and articles, acting in accordance with laws, rules and value systems. During project days, they also learn to decode, reflect on and use media and media content.
During the project week with Radio Summernight, pupils learn to turn thoughts, opinions, experiences and knowledge into media contributions and to publish them while taking laws, rules and value systems into account. Interactive use and exchange with other pupils strengthen media literacy, as required by Curriculum 21 and taught through the project days.
Promoting skills
The project week promotes a range of skills that are important at school and in social life. Working on and researching texts for radio content, for example, promotes German expression, spelling and reading comprehension. It also promotes general knowledge and engagement with current topics in the media.
Using computers purposefully
With the project week, we show that media and technical devices are not only for entertainment, but can also be used as working tools and aids. During the project week, pupils engage intensively with new media and learn to use them responsibly. Through research and guided engagement with topics, participants learn about the opportunities and risks of new media.
Radio project as good practice
The Association for Open Child and Youth Work in Bern has highlighted us as an example of good practice in one of its foundation papers. Our youth radio station offers exciting radio workshops for school classes, where students learn technical skills as well as creative abilities such as conducting interviews and presenting. These hands-on experiences strengthen media literacy, teamwork and self-confidence. This recognition confirms the quality of our work, and we look forward to many more exciting projects in the future.
